Markus “Notch” Persson, the creator of Minecraft, has put his Beverly Hills mansion up for sale. The asking price is $70 million. That is exactly what he paid for it in 2014, when he beat Beyoncé and Jay-Z to the house.

The mansion also lives in Minecraft. A replica was built block by block in early 2015, months after the sale made headlines. The white wings, the pools and the sloping garden are all there. You can walk through it in 3D and download it for your own world, like every house in our Minecraft house builds library.

How Notch Bought the $70 Million Mansion in 2014

In 2014, Microsoft bought Mojang, the studio behind Minecraft, for $2.5 billion. Notch left the company and went house hunting.

He found a modern mansion in Trousdale Estates, a hillside part of Beverly Hills known for its views. It was listed at $85 million. Beyoncé and Jay-Z wanted it too. Notch won with $70 million in cash. At the time, no home in Beverly Hills had ever sold for more.

Inside Notch’s House: Candy Room, Nightclub and Studio

The house was built to impress. Glass walls look out over downtown Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean. There is an infinity pool, a movie theater, an underground garage and a wine cellar for 2,500 bottles.

Then there is the candy room, a wall stocked with sweets. It made headlines around the world when Notch bought the place.

Notch added two rooms of his own: a recording studio and a private nightclub with a DJ booth.

Why Notch Is Selling His Mansion Now

The reason is simple, says his agent: Notch rarely spends time in Los Angeles. Kirman told the Wall Street Journal that Notch is serious about selling.

The timing caught people’s eye. The house went on the market days before Californians vote, on November 3, on a one-time 5% tax on billionaires living in the state. Some posts online called the sale an escape from California. Notch has not said that, and neither has his agent.

If it sells at the full price, it will be the most expensive home sale in Beverly Hills this year, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Notch’s Mansion in Minecraft: The Full Build

The Minecraft replica follows the real house: long white wings with glass walls, a big pool in front, a second pool by the terrace, and a garden that steps down the hill.

It is not just the shell. The build keeps its decoration too:

In all it has 45,513 blocks, plus 2,832 pieces of decoration, on a plot 84 by 85 blocks wide.
